About BLACK+DECKER BPACT12WT Portable Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTU
Overall Feedback:
88% positive
83% liked the cooling capacity, although 17% felt it could be more efficient
During 117 degree weather, I found the portable air conditioner powerful enough to keep a 1200 Sq ft room cool.
I can comfortably cool my 500 square feet apartment from 64 degrees to just under 70 degrees in a few hours using the air conditioner.
The 12,000 btu unit effectively cools my 300 square foot master bedroom with a little help from a ceiling fan. Within a couple of hours of startup, the entire room is much cooler and less humid.
If I leave the 14,000 size unit running in the front room, it can effectively cool the first level of my house.
The portable air conditioner cools my bedroom much better than my old window unit.
In a small room, the portable air conditioner can't work efficiently.
On 95+ degree days, it's hard for the portable air conditioner to keep the area under 80 degrees.
73% were impressed with the noise level, yet 27% found it slightly bothersome
The noise level of the air conditioner is similar to my old window unit and not any louder.
The noise level of my portable air conditioner is perfect for me. I use fans for noise even in winter, but I'm not sure if others would find it too loud.
When running on low fan speed, the portable air conditioner is quiet.
The noise level of the unit is tolerable and not excessive.
The portable air conditioner is a bit loud compared to a box fan.
I gave 4 stars for noise level and found the portable air conditioner pretty noisy. However, all portable units are noisy and this one is no exception.
Other reviewers have noted that it is on the loud side.
For someone used to a completely silent room, it might be hard to sleep through it.
The portable air conditioner is definitely noisy and may not be suitable for light sleepers.
76% highlighted the portability and mobility
The unit has casters that rotate 360 degrees, making it easy to move around.
The portable air conditioner is heavy, but it moves easily on the carpet with its casters.
The portable air conditioner is easy to move around with its wheels.
I can easily roll away the portable AC for off-season storage.
75% commented on the air Filtration system
I suddenly remembered that I need to clean the filter regularly.
Keeping the filters clean is important. I double check every time I use it and wash it every other time to keep it working efficiently.
66% found the ventilation options useful, while 34% were indifferent
I did not use the louvered air exhaust that comes with the kit and instead built a sturdy wooden attachment for the window.
The portable air conditioner is safer and easier to use than a window unit. I vented the hot air out of the room using the chimney.
I found the window kit easy to install and stretchable to fit my 58" window. However, the exhaust hose is very short (about 5") and may need to be replaced with a longer one.
If the exhaust hose is run too far, it will throw quite a bit of heat. This indicates the efficiency of our A/C unit, which essentially takes hot air out as exhaust.
I managed to set up the telescoping metal plate that blocks the window above the vent, although it was a bit tricky.
I replaced the rigid exhaust hose that came with the unit with a flexible dryer style hose because it was not long enough to reach the window and had no insulation.
69% appreciated the remote control, however 31% found them unnecessary
I can control all the thoughtful features of the panek with the remote, including fan speed, cooling mode, timer, etc.
The remote control is excellent.
I found the remote control very useful as I could turn down the air conditioner while watching TV.
I recommend using the remote for optimal performance.
The portable air conditioner has a convenient remote to adjust the settings.
I have noticed that two functions - the max button and the sleep button - are exclusive to the remote control. My toddler is obsessed with remote controls, so we have to hide them. This means we usually use the on-board buttons to change settings. This review expresses my negative feedback regarding the Remote Control and Smart Features.
82% found it quick to install, yet 18% encountered difficulties
The portable air conditioner is easy to set up and move around. It can be easily moved from room to room and window to window.
I found the installation process easy. I had to wait for 24 hours to let it settle and faced vibration at first, but leveling the unit easily rectified it.
Assembling the A/C was easy and it came together quickly.
I found the installation process a bit tricky, specifically setting up the telescoping metal plate that blocks the window above the vent, but managed to do it on my own.
The portable air conditioner has exceeded my expectations in terms of cooling power.
