I compared the heat distribution of the old unit with the new unit. The old unit used a rotary-blower, and this unit blows hot air up from the center. This unit pushed out much larger popped corns and barely any un-popped kernels, and putting those kernels back through the machine yielded no further pops so effectively it popped all it could on the first round, which is great - no more fussing about with attempting to filter and re-pop kernels.
