I compared the ease of use of this product with an aerogarden. The aerogarden lets you set the time and automatic on and off times, while this product has a button that starts a timer immediately. However, if you accidentally hit a button while cleaning the top, it will restart the timer. I find myself having to manually turn on and off the hydroponic more often than not.
