I used peppermint oil soaked cotton balls and rags before using this product. It was a hassle to refill the rags and change some of the cotton balls every month. I also found that mouse and rats are not afraid of peppermint oil and they are brave enough to go up to the container with my peppermint balls and take or grab/claw the cotton balls out to see if they are actually food. I have personally faced this problem and have used pest-control-sprayers.
