About Generac 8250 GP2500i 2,500-Watt Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator
Overall Feedback:
71% positive
72% liked the sturdy construction
Most of the generator seems well constructed except for the fuel cap and carb.
I was able to power my home build job site with various tools like nail guns, random saws, auger drills, and a Bosch table saw for 10 hours without any issues.
78% liked the fuel efficiency
I can run the generator for 10-12 hours on a gallon of gas, depending on how much I use the AC.
The generator ran for 20 hours on 2.5 gallons of gas in eco mode, making it economical.
I was surprised by the fuel economy of the generator, as it lasted for about 8 hours per fill.
69% found maintenance straightforward, but 31% faced complications
I recommend frequent oil changes in outdoor generators, specifically every 50 hours instead of the recommended 100 hours, and running Premium No Ethanol fuel to keep the generator running smoothly.
Regular maintenance and using fresh gas or adding stabilizer when first getting gas is important.
I have been unable to find basic maintenance parts like air filter and spark arrestor screen.
I had issues with the generator and took it to several lawn mower repair shops but they refused to look at it. The issue is with the inverter controls or stepper motor and it is very hard to test for. Generac refused to replace, refund or trade the unit.
84% were satisfied with the quiet operation, but 16% were bothered
I was amazed at the running noise level, it is quieter than my Honda 2000i.
The outdoor generator produces a noise level of 65 db at 20 feet away on eco mode with the chock off and a very light load (just an LED light bulb).
75% found it easy to transport, but 25% found it bulky
I love the portability and noise level of this generator compared to others.
The generator is small and light enough for me to carry in my Kubota or ATV.
The generator is light weight (74 lbs) and small enough to fit in my truck bed with the tonneau cover on.
The generator is light enough to be carried in an SUV and taken to jobs where there is no access to electricity for tools.
I suggest improving the generators by including hand holes in the box for easier grasping and moving.
The generator is heavy to carry around and there are no wheels. I use a yard cart to move it more than a few feet.
72% appreciated the high power output, but 28% found it insufficient
We were impressed with the generator's power output. The voltage was well-regulated and the sine wave was perfect even when the load came on suddenly.
The generator provides 3500 watts and started with the first pull of the cord, just like heavier generators.
I was looking for a generator with more power output to run my air conditioner consistently. I liked the output and specs of this 2500 watt Generac so I decided to give it a try. At this point, I am happy that this one will run my air conditioner, but I do have an easy start capacitor on my air conditioner.
I found that the generator had more than enough power for my 9K btu Air Conditioner and anything else I ran off it.
I perceive that the idle rpm of the Generac is higher than the Honda.
69% appreciated the long runtime, but 31% found it limited
I hear a knocking/clucking noise on normal run mode.
I found it ridiculous that the generator stopped working after only 3 minutes of run time.
I had a hard time starting the generator and once it started, it didn't run well with a surging idle.
75% found it easy to start up
I can easily start the generator and it runs smoothly, powering the A/C on the camper well.
71% found it resistant to various weather conditions
The generator is very quiet even when running outside with closed windows or when sitting outside with it on the other side of the RV, just some background white noise.
The plastic quality of the generator is high, the panels fit together perfectly, and the whole thing is insulated from vibration and noise in all the right places.
I checked the wiring, bolts, etc. and found everything was solidly in place, indicating good build quality.
