The monopod is made of 8X carbon fiber, super strong, yet very light. It can double as a walking stick for hikers. I was worried it would not be strong enough, but my worries disappeared as soon as I began using it. I even put my camera on 2 sec timer and thrust the camera ten feet in the air for a shot over crowds or fences and the monopod is so strong I got perfect pictures even under those conditions.
