I have found that the lead in this pencil is solidly gripped in place and doesn't slide back like some of the mechanical pencils from my childhood.
The collar extends with the lead and remains out of the way. Even when it makes contact with the paper, there is little to no ripping.
When the tip of my pencil bends due to improper storage, the lead breaks every time I use it.
