About Pentel GraphGear 1000 Mechanical Pencil, (0.5mm), Black Barrel, 1 Each
79% found the pencil weight balanced
The pencil has a good weight, not too heavy.
The weight of the pencil is fantastic.
78% appreciated the refill mechanism, while 22% found it cumbersome
Refilling the pencil is impossible once the stick of lead that comes with it is used up.
I also have the same issue with the second pencil not allowing refill lead to enter the chamber.
Once the stick of lead is used up, I cannot refill the pencil by loading through the top or forcing a new stick into the writing point, even if I buy new sticks.
78% liked the precision for fine writing
I have found that the pencil has better precision than the BIC and is also tough.
The thin design of the pencil allows for precision and encourages me to write neater even when I don't want to.
I have been using this family of pencils for over a year now as a physics major, student, and tutor. This indicates that I have found the product to be of good precision.
79% found the lead smooth, but 21% encountered issues
I have tried many pencils and compared the lead movement of mechanical pencils. I found that the movement is not an issue if you use the right grade of lead. Based on my experience, the control board is easy to use with many options and presets.
Lead movement is not working properly. It only advances 1/32 of an inch and slides back into the pencil while writing.
78% praised the lead durability
I have never felt the need for fancy gears that turn the lead around in a pencil. It is a minimalistic product with long-lasting durability.
I rarely experience breakage, indicating that the lead is durable.
The leads are very sturdy with very little breakage. Any breakage occurred due to extending the lead too far out.
77% liked the grip comfort, whereas 23% found it uncomfortable
The grip of the pencil is made of rubber or soft plastic, making it extremely comfortable to hold. It also has a delicate taper in the middle and is naturally non-slip.
The grip provides good control and is comfortable.
I like the grip of the pencil with the silicone bumps adding comfort and traction to the knurled aluminum.
Initially, I thought the metal grip would be iffy, but the gel ovals make it interesting and comfortable.

78% appreciated the eraser quality, however 22% didn't
The eraser I used is the best ever, leaving barely any residue and erasing pencil marks completely.
The eraser is useful for me as I can erase just the one number I mis-wrote in my equation without erasing the other numbers right next to it. It erases cleanly and with little required force, but, since it is skinny, it can be erased away within a month or two.
I am dissatisfied with the eraser quality of the mechanical pencil. The eraser is small and runs out quickly, and I have to either try to advance it, insert a replacement eraser, or buy a separate eraser.
86% appreciated the clip strength, but 14% found it weak
The clip securely attaches the pencil to notebooks and bags.
While hiking, I clipped the pencil onto a lanyard around my neck and it never fell or got lost.
The clip hinge is flimsy and tends to slide side to side.
I worry that if the clip breaks, the pencil will be useless due to a bit of wobble.

87% liked the barrel design, but 13% found it unattractive
I like the longer and larger barrel of the Graph Gear. It makes the heavier weight feel less cumbersome and more natural. It is the perfect size.
I can easily identify the type of lead in each pencil without having to test them, thanks to the barrel's rotating window.
I have a mechanical pencil with a nice metal barrel and a textured grip that never wears off.
The metal barrel is screwed onto the plastic threads of the plastic barrel and is just for show.
