I upgraded from a 2 inch bed topper to a 4 inch one. The topper is thick enough to make me sink into it. As a side sleeper, I use 2 pillows which can be awkward for my head and lower back. However, the softness of the topper relieves pains in my joints caused by a firm bed.
I find the 4" mattress topper too soft with low density, making it difficult to move and sink in it.
