About Plugable USB C Triple Display Docking Station
93% found it compatible with devices, yet
I faced compatibility issues with a different brand docking station and had to send it back. But with this Plugable docking station, all I had to do was connect my monitors via HDMI and both my PC and Macbook were good to go.
I can use the product with my PC laptop through the USB-C jack and it conveniently charges my laptop without needing a separate charger.
On some of my computers, the device did not work, but it worked on high-end machines.
91% liked the data transfer speed, while
I have been using this dock daily for a week, usually 10-12 hours a day, with no issues. The dock has 2 free Thunderbolt 4 40Gbps USB-C ports for high-speed external storage devices, or even another docking station, which shows that the data transfer speeds of the docking station are good.
My laptop requires 65W, but the docking station only has a 60W max output. I still receive messages from my laptop asking for more power to improve efficiency.
I experienced a significant decrease in upload and download speeds while using the docking station, despite the product description claiming to add Gigabit Ethernet. This negative feedback highlights the issue with data transfer speeds of laptop-docking-stations.
93% appreciated the durability; however
I experienced occasional video connection drop with the docking station after a few months of usage, but the customer service was helpful and responsive.
I have gone through two HP docking stations in the last two years and am unhappy with their reliability and price.
93% highlighted the multi-monitor support,but
The docking station has a mini computer to mimic a screen and project it on the 2nd monitor.
Installing a driver to support a second and third monitor was a minor annoyance.
I faced a problem while dragging one window to the other monitor.
90% liked the number and types of ports
The docking station connects 3 displays and 6 peripheral devices using one USB-C port on my MacBook Pro. It powers and charges both Lenovo and MacBook Pro, and has Gigabit Ethernet and 6 USB 3.0 ports. With 3 monitors handled by one USB-C port and the 4th one connected to the MacBook's built-in HDMI, I still have 2 free Thunderbolt 4 40Gbps USB-C ports for high-speed external storage devices or another docking station. I can even run 2 docks in tandem with either the Lenovo or M2 MacBook Pro and connect a total of 6 external monitors in Extend mode. It was also successfully tested on M1 MacBook Air with 5 external monitors.
I recommend getting a USB-A to USB-C adapter and plugging it into a 3.0 or greater port, preferably on the front or somewhere easily reachable if the desktop doesn't have a USB-C port.
88% were satisfied with the power delivery, but
I appreciate the power delivery feature of the docking station as it eliminates the need to crawl under the desk or drag the power cord across the room to plug in the travel charger.
The docking station cannot power or charge the laptop through the USB-C port or docking station. I need to connect the original HP power supply to the computer while using an external docking station.
Most days, I have to power cycle the docking station 2-3 times as it is missing a power button.
