About MOKiN Docking Station for MacBook Pro Air
Overall Feedback:
74% positive
86% found it compatible with devices, yet
The docking station provides wired networking and additional ports that most modern Chromebooks lack and works perfectly with my brand new Chromebook.
I purchased an Anker 651 hub which is a great dock. However, I couldn't utilize the display ports because my USB-C ports did not support them. It does expand my available slots by one at the very least as it comes with two USB-C ports.
86% found it compatible with different os,yet
I was able to connect two older displays (Dell and Acer) to my MacBook Air 2020 with an Intel processor.
The docking station does not reliably connect a monitor or USB mouse.
I tested the docking station on two different computers with different OS and faced the same issue.
91% liked the data transfer speed
I found that the USB-C ports functioned well with good speeds.
The data transfer speed is 5Gbps, not 10Gbps, and it will connect at a slower speed. For most people, 5Gbps is sufficient.
I was hesitant at first because of the small size of the docking station and thought it couldn't handle the GBs worth of data I needed to transfer. However, it proved me wrong quickly.
87% appreciated the durability; however
I have concerns about the durability of the docking station as the USB-C cable is permanently wired to the body and cannot be replaced. This could be problematic over time with wear and tear, as if the cable were to break, the whole unit would be unusable.
88% were satisfied with the ease of use
The product is versatile and extremely easy to connect. I was able to use the split screen and distribute my view point to each monitor with ease.
The docking station is easy to use and works perfectly with my brand new Chromebook. It provides wired networking and additional ports that most modern Chromebooks lack.
87% highlighted the multi-monitor support,but
I am disappointed that having 2 HDMI ports is pointless if they cannot work together.
I am using this docking station with my MacBook Pro displaying two screens: an ultra-wide 32' monitor and a 19.5' monitor. It works alright, but my ultra-wide 4k monitor shows horizontal lines that flicker on the screen while using this dock for a dual screen setup.
86% liked the number and types of ports, while
USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports work well for my wireless controller Dongle and USB Flash drive for transferring files to my Steam Deck.
I have noticed that the USB-C 3.0 ports and SD card slot of the laptop-docking-station are slow, which is negative feedback regarding the number and types of ports.
90% were satisfied with the power delivery, but
I was able to supply power to my MacBook by plugging an old Chromebook's USB-C power supply into the USB-C port of this hub.
I found it strange that my laptop was not turning on despite being connected to power through the docking station.
When I connect two 4K monitors to this dongle, the MacBook Pro cannot charge due to high power draw.
68% appreciated the security features
The docking station stays securely in my computer with dual ports clipping firmly and not being flush.
I cannot use the docking station to power my computer as I get a slow charging error and the computer wants to go into energy saving mode. The docking station would need a USB C input of at least 85 watts for it to charge my laptop with 65 watts.
I tested the docking station and found that the two HDMI ports do not operate independently as distinct outputs. They mirror the same screen, which defeats the purpose of having dual ports for extended displays. This limitation significantly hampers the utility of the dock for anyone looking to expand their workspace with multiple monitors.
