About CalDigit TS3 Plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock 87W Charging 7X USB 3.1 Ports USB-C Gen 2
Overall Feedback:
66% positive
72% found it compatible with devices, yet
CalDigit docks make any peripheral think they are talking directly to a port on my computer, not a hub.
I have been using the dock for a year and am mostly happy with it, but have encountered a few issues here and there.
I returned the device because it did not have an alternate Thunderbolt mode, which means the dock would not work as USB 3.0 only.
There is a compatibility issue between our device and Apple Computers.
72% found it compatible with different os,yet
CalDigit is the only dock that works for my 2 monitors and Cintiq setup with a laptop.
I tried the docking station with two different laptops running different OS and both had significant issues.
I faced issues with the dock causing graphical corruption and kernel panics in OSX.
There is a compatibility issue between the device and Apple computers.
73% liked the data transfer speed, while
Thunderbolt 3 ports work flawlessly and chain up X1 Extreme, dock and BenQ 4K HDR Thunderbolt 3 monitor without any drama at 60Hz.
I have noticed that the Ethernet port barely makes ~200Mbit/s download and 40 upload.
69% appreciated the durability; however
I have noticed that the docking station cannot last even 40 days of very light use.
70% were satisfied with the ease of use
The docking station has a built-in SD card reader which makes it easier for me to do a card-to-card copy/move.
I found the Caldigit TS3 Plus docking station easy to set up and use. I plugged it in with the included Thunderbolt 3 cable and it worked right away.
77% highlighted the multi-monitor support,but
CalDigit is the only dock that allows me to set up my 2 monitors and Cintiq with my laptop.
Most docks do not support multiple displays with a single cable, which can make it tedious and difficult to use multiple monitors with a laptop. However, this dock unifies the cable input to a single cable, making it extremely easy.
When I plug the dock into my other machine, the monitor powered by the displayport does not turn on and shows no signal.
74% liked the number and types of ports
I have two Thunderbolt 4 ports on my high end Dell workstation and I have a CalDigit TS4 dock plugged into each of them.
I am satisfied with the number and types of ports available on the dock, especially the plenty of USB Type A ports that provide power and data to a bunch of USB peripherals.
67% were satisfied with the power delivery, but
I have noticed that the dock doesn't provide enough power to my ThinkPad and I have to keep the laptop's power cable plugged in.
65% appreciated the security features
I have not experienced any disconnects, glitches, or overheating issues with the dock, which proves its stability and reliability.
I cannot use the docking station to power my computer as I get a slow charging error and the computer wants to go into energy saving mode. The docking station would need a USB C input of at least 85 watts for it to charge my laptop with 65 watts.
I faced issues while using other high quality cables and it only worked when I used the hub-to-host cable that was supplied.
