When the field of view is around 6mm x 4mm, I keep the distance from the microscope to the object around 10mm, and this is when the zoom dial is just a few steps above the lowest end.

I have discovered that the 'zoom' feature of this microscope is actually a focus range. To get a larger image, I need to move the camera closer to the item and then re-focus using the wheel. The microscope has a great focus range which makes this possible.
