About Schwinn Petunia and Grit Steerable Kids Bikes
Overall Feedback:
69% positive
82% appreciated the adjustability
I had to adjust the seat a few times before it was the right height, but it was easy to do and not a problem at all.
The bike is sturdy and allows for easy adjustment of the seat and handlebars, which is great for quickly growing toddlers.
I was able to adjust the handlebars by undoing the cover below the crank and adjusting the cables, which shows that the bike is customizable as per my requirements.
86% praised the braking system, but 14% had issues
I find it challenging to fight the braking force when my toddler presses the paddles backwards on the bike.
It is difficult to push my 2 year old daughter long distances because she presses down on the foot back brake.
The directions that came with the bike are for a bike with handle bar brakes, which is silly because it is meant for a kid. This indicates that the braking system is not suitable for kids.
81% were impressed with the comfortable ride
With the handle, I have full control of the bike while my child learns to control speed, steer, etc.
The rod feature allows me to control, push, and steer the bike as necessary, which is a comfort feature for kids' bikes.
The posterior removable steering handle is very helpful for parents of first-time bike riders. My son is very short, but his feet can reach the pedals with the seat all the way down. He cannot yet pedal but can still enjoy riding this bike due to the helpful posterior handle. For adults, the handle is a blessing because one does NOT bend over uncomfortably the entire time while pushing. The handle allows for easy, smooth, comfortable steering and safely helps guide a toddler who'd rather steer himself. We have comfortably been able to push our son for as long as he'd like around the house or down the sidewalk only because of this handle. Even my father with Parkinson's loved pushing my son around only because of the handle which gave my father support and easy maneuverability. No other 12-inch bike had such a handle, and now that we have a first bike with a handle, I would never consider a first bike without one.
I love the handle design as it allows for easy control and is great for my back.
79% were impressed with the durability, but 21% weren't
The bike is so durable that I haven't had to replace or inflate the wheels yet.
The gear where the two pedal bars meet has become loose twice in the past few months, indicating that our kids-bike is not durable enough.
The steering robs line can break easily and needs to be restrung at a bike shop.
My pedals suddenly got hard and the bike stopped completely, indicating it may not be durable.
74% appreciated the easy assembly, but 26% found it complicated
I assembled the bike with my husband in about 35 minutes and found it easy to assemble.
The assembly process was very easy and only required a philips screwdriver and small wrench set.
The assembly process was extremely easy and the construction is sturdy. Additionally, the bottle holder is very convenient.
The manual in the box was for an adult gear bike assembly and does not match with my bike and its given pieces.
81% liked the safety features
The Schwinn bike has a completely enclosed chain, which is a safety feature I appreciate since my toddler is extremely curious and would explore a dirty exposed chain if there was one.
Being by my side and taking the reigns if needed ensures the safety of my child while riding the bike.
82% found it lightweight and easy to balance
I feel secure letting go of the bike with training wheels, ensuring my grandson won't fall down.
The bike is comfortable for me to push around and has helped my back.
I can ride the bike in three stages as it has a removable handle and training wheels.
The handlebars are not adjustable and the seat should go down farther.
