About Segway Ninebot ES2/ ES3 Plus/ES4 Foldable Electric Scooter
Overall Feedback:
66% positive
62% praised for its reliable braking system, but 38% experienced issues
I compared the braking system of Segway Ninebot ES and isinwheel S9 Pro and found that the isinwheel S9 Pro has much smoother braking with no vibration, while the Segway Ninebot ES had electronic braking that was too sensitive and made it hard to gently brake, causing the scooter to vibrate when coming to a quick stop.
The electronic brake on my scooter is not powerful enough to bring it to a halt.
I experienced a catastrophic situation while riding the scooter at 20 mph, as I was unable to use both electric and mechanical brakes.
67% praised for its durability, while 33% experienced frequent breakdowns
The scooter is durable and does exactly what I wanted.
I gave a 1-star rating due to the slow repair process, lack of transparency from Segway customer service, and poor product quality/durability.
I had to tighten all of the bolts right out of the box and then faced issues with the second battery not connecting after 100 miles.
In just one year of riding the scooter, two batteries have failed and now two main circuit boards have failed.
There is a lag between pushing the accelerator and the scooter actually moving.
74% found the folding mechanism easy to use, while 26% struggled with it
It is extremely easy to fold up and carry into stores and shops.
I faced an issue with the folding mechanism of the kick-scooter. It failed to fold properly after hopping off a curb. I advise caution while riding over cracks in the road and potholes.
During the folding process, the bottom grinds on the pavement because the folding mechanism takes the front wheel off the ground.
I got my finger caught in the folding hinge part of the scooter while taking it out of the box and now I am bleeding from my ring finger.
I faced difficulty in folding and rolling the scooter due to a seized up front wheel. I had to carry it which was not fun at all.
Rephrased:
Due to a seized up front wheel, I had difficulty folding and rolling the scooter. Carrying it was not fun at all.
66% found maintenance a breeze, but 34% found it cumbersome
The kick-scooter is easier to maintain with solid rubber tires that require less maintenance and are less likely to get flats.
When folded, the scooter takes less space.
This scooter is better than larger styles of electric scooters because it is easy to use and portable.
With regular cleaning and lubrication, only the wheels and handle bars are worn down.
I like the throttle breaking system because it's easier on the hand compared to bicycle style breaks.
It's a good idea to lock the scooter if I'm leaving it outside.
68% appreciated the smooth ride, but 32% found it bumpy
I found the ride to be relatively comfortable on practically all surfaces, despite its sturdy and rugged build.
Riding over speed bumps or sharper bumps is uncomfortable due to almost non-existent shock absorption.
The shocks on my scooter are not suitable for heavy riders on bumpy streets and it bottoms out far too many times for my comfort level.
Even with the shock absorbers, the ride is harsh.
71% liked its speed, but 29% found it too slow
There are two modes, standard and sport, and the speed and acceleration vary accordingly. In standard mode, the speed is limited to 14-15 mph and the acceleration is fairly good. In sport mode, the speed and acceleration are maximum with the least amount of range.
I use the ES4 scooter with a sport mode that allows me to hit approximately 24mph. I maintain that speed for my entire commute both ways back (about 15 miles total), at which point the battery is near-empty.
On a flat road, I can reach a top speed of 16mph on the scooter.
The scooter's speed was painfully slow even on the slowest of 3 speed settings, which was 17kph/10mph.
The braking system has a responsive dual brake system.
