Juicer Buying Guide

Juice is often considered healthy. The fibers in the juice are beneficial for the body in various ways. Juice can be either squeezed from a fruit or a vegetable. Instead of drinking store-bought, pre-packaged juice, drinking freshly extracted juice is recommended as it contains more nutrients. That is here the role of a juicer comes into play.  A juicer allows you to make juice easily allowing you to reap the benefits everyday. By consuming juice everyday, you can increase the level of essential vitamins and minerals from fruits, and vegetables,. This will help in boosting your energy levels and increase your immunity therby maintaing an overall good health.

Types of Juicers

Centrifugal Juicers

They are great at juicing almost any kind of fruit or vegetable, but are not very efficient in extracting juice from wheatgrass, leafy greens or herbs. Centrifugal juicers work by slicing the fruit and/or vegetables with a flat cutting blade and spinning the produce at a high speed to separate the juice from the pulp. The juice then passes through the tiny holes in a strainer basket and gets collected in a pitcher. The pulp is collected in a separate container to be removed afterward. It also creates oxidation that degrades over time, so the juice needs to be consumed right away. These are the most popular and affordable type of juicers.

Cold Press / Slow Juicers

They are more efficient than centrifugal juicers because they can extract more juice from the same amount of food. A cold press/slow juicer works at a low speed with minimal oxidation, and presses fruit and/or veggies to separate the liquid from the fiber. This type of juicer can squeeze up to 30% more juice out of  the produce than a centrifugal juicer.

Twin-gear Juicers

Twin-gear juicers are the most expensive type of juicers, but they offer the most benefits. It is also a cold-press process but works by pressing food between two interlocking roller gears which crushes and squeezes the juice and then separates the pulp. They turn at an even slower speed then cold press/slow juicers. They can extract larger volumes of juice from fruits, vegetables, wheatgrass, pine needles, spinach, and other greens and herbs. Twin Gear Juicers are multi-functional and produce smoothies nut milk and purees.

Features to Consider before Buying a Juicer

Easy to use

Most of the juices are designed in a simple way and features comfortable controls. They usually come with detachable parts, that can be disassembled and assembled quickly, making cleaning a convenience.

Controls and Speed

Juicers are built with increasing speed controls that allow you to extract the maximum juice out of your produce. Slow speeds are good for juicing soft fruits, like grapes, and the high speed is better for firmer vegetables, like carrots and cucumbers.

Processing Speed

The slow juicers rotate at a speed of just 43-80 RPM to mimic the motion of a hand squeezing juicer and provide juice that stays fresh and retains all of its natural nutrients. whereas, centrifugal juicers rotate at a speed of 10,000-16,000 RPM that retains fewer nutrients as compared to other types of juicers.

Warranty

It is important to take a note of the warranty that comes with the product. Most of the juicers come with a warranty between 1-2 years with easy replacement policy in case of damage.
