About WD_BLACK 1TB SN770M M.2 2230 NVMe SSD for handheld gaming devices
Overall Feedback:
80% positive
74% liked the generous storage capacity, but 26% found it too small
The drive has an excellent capacity.
I did a benchmark with Linux and got 6GB/s read and 3GB/s write which seems pretty fast to me.
My write speed started at 750MB/s but degraded to 350MB/s after 500GB and then to 250MB/s towards the end of the bulk data transfer from another NVMe source.
The initial write speed is great, almost 5000MB/s, but once the SLC cache is full, the writing speed drops to ~300MB/s, which is not good.
76% found it compatible with various systems, but 24% encountered compatibility issues
Upon booting the system, I noticed that Linux recognized the drive and it appears to have formatted correctly.
Linux recognized the drive upon booting and it appears to have formatted correctly.
I easily installed the drive and it is working fine on my new Lenovo Legion 5i laptop.
After replacing the Samsung 980 pro, the IO issue disappeared.
I did not receive the mounting screw to fasten the drive to the motherboard.
78% praised for its lightning-fast read and write speeds, but 22% experienced slower performance
The drive has a read speed of 6GB/s and write speed of 3GB/s, which is pretty fast.
The internal-solid-state-drives have a read speed of 6GB/s and write speed of 3GB/s, which is pretty fast.
The read speed of my internal solid-state drive only reaches 1.5 GB/s, but it's still faster than my previous HDD (182 MB/s).
The initial write speed is great, almost 5000MB/s, but once the SLC cache is full, I am stuck to ~300MB/s writing speed, which is awful.
I noticed that the write speed of my internal-solid-state-drive started at 750MB/s but degraded to 350MB/s after the first 500GB and all the way down to 250MB/s toward the end of the bulk data transfer from another NVMe source.
75% praised for its rugged durability, while 25% experienced hardware failure
My drive did not come with the mounting screw to fasten it down to the motherboard post.
As soon as I installed the drive, my Windows Server started crashing with the log filling up with the stornvme driver reporting controller failure for this device and the ReFS driver reporting filesystem data corruption.
There are many reports of similar issues on WD and other tech forums. WD only responds with canned messages about their quality controls.
63% appreciated its low power consumption, though 37% noticed higher energy usage
The initial write speed is great, almost 5000MB/s.
The speed of reading of this NMVe is not as described, it only reaches 1.5 GB/s. However, it is still faster than my HDD Toshiba which has a speed of 182 MB/s.
I am struggling to get speeds over 2500 mb/s, which is lower than the expected speed of 3500 mb/s.
82% praised for its lightning-fast read and write speeds

I need more space for games, indicating that the internal solid-state drive has good capacity.
