I found a workaround to make it work properly. I suggest unplugging the 2 Lightning Adapter from the iPhone, taking out the power jack, plugging the 2 Lightning Adapter back into the iPhone and then plugging in the power jack.
When I plug the earphones into the splitter piece, they don't work. However, they work fine when plugged into the phone itself.
The inputs/outputs are a bit difficult to plug things into.
