I recommend using the hardware-sealer outside as it has strong adhesive strength and can stick to anything.
I suggest applying two medium thick coats of 1/16" rather than one heavy coat of 3/32-1/8" to avoid droopy appearance and runs. The hardware-sealer goes on thick.
