About Seam Grip FC Fast Cure Sealant for Nylon and Polyester Tents
Overall Feedback:
96% positive
92% appreciated its fast drying time
After applying the hardware-sealers, it takes overnight for them to dry and then they are good to go until the following year.
After testing the product in a temperature-controlled room with the tent flaps open for airflow, I found that the sealant was dry to the touch and good to go after 16 hours, as stated by the instructions.
It took me a few hours to set up the huge tent.
97% found it easy to apply, but 3% had difficulties
I found it easiest to apply the product by squeezing a small amount onto a paper plate, pushing the top down to close it, and then using a brush-like paintbrush to apply it from the plate.
I recommend using a small foam brush to apply the sealant, making it easier to work into the tiny spaces and prevent leaks.
The applicator system on the bottle is difficult to use and wasteful. I found that using a small plastic cup and a fine-haired paintbrush worked better for me.
Once the liquid dries, the applicator gets clogged and the remaining liquid does not flow.
96% liked its flexibility
I compared the product to thin runny milk in the bottle, but it creates a great 'rubbery' seal when dry by soaking into the thread and fabric.
I apply the product with a small foam brush instead of the applicator on the bottle, making it easier to work into the tiny spaces that need to be filled to prevent leaks.
96% appreciated its moisture resistance
I noticed no leaks in the seams during moderate rain, indicating good moisture resistance.
During both storms, I noticed that there was no water in the tent, indicating the effectiveness of the hardware-sealers' moisture resistance.
After applying the product, my tent remained completely dry during 3 days of torrential rainstorms and 1 day of sleet and snow.
I have used the product on my camping gear for a while and it works wonders in stopping leaks on the seams of a tent or tarp.
I did not face any problem with water coming into my tent. I applied two layers of Kiwi silicon-based water repellent.
97% praised for its strong adhesive
I used two bottles of the product to cover all the internal seams of my 17x10 8 person tent, indicating that the adhesive strength is sufficient for the purpose.
I found that the best way to apply the product is to pour it into a measuring cup and use the applicator. Dip it into the cup to wet it and make quick back and forth motions on small areas at a time.
I used this product to seal a hole in my pond and the edges of the patch kit. Then, I applied it all over the outside of the patched area to create an even better seal. It worked wonderfully.
