About Garmin DriveSmart 55 and Traffic, GPS Navigator, 5.5 Display
Overall Feedback:
77% positive
69% praised for its pinpoint accuracy, but 31% experienced occasional errors
I am disappointed with the accuracy of the directions.
In my area, the map data provided by Garmin is not accurate.
In my experience, the maps are 98% accurate, but there are many dead ends and one-way streets that this GPS does not recognize in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
The GPS software is not accurate and has put me onto wrong or longer routes, even with updates. It can also be inaccurate in guiding me to a specific spot.
The battery life is poor and drains too fast, even though we paid a premium price of $200. It feels like the unit is running on a near-expired battery.
The battery life of my handheld GPS unit is only about one hour or 90 minutes.
The battery life was not good and didn't last long. I had to keep it plugged in which was a pain because of the cord getting tangled up.
When not powered by the car, the battery life is quite short and almost useless.
72% liked the clear display, but 28% found it hard to read in bright light
The bigger screen makes it more pleasant and easy to use.
The large screen is easy to read and nice.
The screen is flat like an HDTV flat screen.
The screen quality is nice and better than my previous Garmin units.
The user interface is pretty good but I was looking for voice command to be great. Unfortunately, it never seems to understand what I am saying. Even my girlfriend tried but this feature is basically useless.
65% praised for its rugged water resistance
Garmin knows how to build a GPS that can withstand a car dash.
I am disappointed with the accuracy of the directions provided by the GPS unit. It has missed some roads entirely and failed to give directions at a major intersection.
For back country hiking, I found the unit to have good accuracy, graphics, and battery life.
