Speed setting 1 is perfect for mixing pancake batter and the beaters can go in and out of the batter without it being flung everywhere.
I have experienced handmixers in the past that had slow speed at 1 and then it would be fast, faster, super fast. However, this mixer has a gradual and appropriate increase in speeds.

It makes it easy to store the hand mixer and its accessories together, which is something I have struggled with in the past.
