I was skeptical about the quality of the set when I bought it, but when I opened it, I could see that it had a nice quality and was not paper thin in its construction.
I am disappointed with the durability of the string action gauge. It is off by exactly half a mm on every reading over .5 and anything printed below that is total garbage. The thousandths of an inch side is even worse and totally unusable.
The feelers come bathed in oil, probably to prevent rusting in a single day if wiped down.
The edges of the gauge are quite sharp and if not filed down, it could easily scratch the frets or even cut me.

As a beginner, start with inexpensive tools to learn and get familiar with them. However, serious work requires investing in StewMac tools to overcome limitations.
