I ordered a metal garden hose thinking it would be more durable, but it only lasted a few months before the metal shielding came apart in the middle, making it useless.
The metal grippy part is almost impossible to unscrew things from if they have been sufficiently tightened, as it is only about 1/4 inchwide.

The metal grippy part at the end of my garden-hose is too narrow, making it almost impossible to unscrew attachments like sprayers or other hoses if they have been tightened sufficiently.

The aluminum wrapped hoses are helpful for me as they are lightweight and easy to move. It's difficult to move a heavy hose from one end to the other, especially since I have the longest house.
