About FAMCO Wind Directional Chimney Cap 6 Inch
Overall Feedback:
78% positive
71% liked its sleek and modern design, while 29% found it unattractive
The idea of the chimney cap is nice, but it is not suitable for me due to the creosote build-up issue.
74% praised for its long-lasting durability, while 26% found it prone to rust
The product worked great for one month but then got stuck in position, allowing smoke to blow down into my cabin.
Now that it is the beginning of the heating season, the cap has failed.
I have bought this product twice in the past 5 years. The original one worked well but could not withstand high winds at my mountain cabin, resulting in damage to the product.
I placed the product in a windy area for 30 days and it blew off due to poor quality.
77% found it easy to install, while 23% had difficulties
Installing the fireplace chimney cap was easy, but we needed an adapter for triple wall pipe.
I installed the chimney cap on December 1st, 2021 and will post updates throughout the winter season.
I installed the item but it got stuck and couldn't rotate from its original position.
For a month, the product worked great but then it got stuck in position and wouldn't rotate. Smoke blew down into my cabin. I had to climb up a slippery roof and spray WD-40 on it. It loosened up for a while, then stuck again.
71% liked the high quality material, but 29% found it thin
The new cap made a significant difference in the airflow and it was a perfect fit.
I suggest buying the stainless one from this search as it will last longer.
If the cap were made from thicker stainless steel and had a non-stick pivot, I would pay a bit more for a better version.
Due to the wind, the material bent and caused the cap to stop turning.
76% liked the perfect size and fit, but 24% found it small
The cap fits perfectly, is not too expensive and helps eliminate downdraft in high winds.
A sheet metal screw was recommended to keep the unit in place inside the pipe, which made a significant difference in the performance of the chimney.
When searching for a cap that fits a 6 inch pipe, the product comes up, but it won't fit without buying their adapter.
I have noticed that creosote builds up around the bearing and it gets locked in place if there are a few days without wind.
Rephrased:
Creosote builds up around the bearing and it gets locked in place if there are a few days without wind.
I added the chimenea topper to the top of my chimenea and painted it to match. It looks good and is built well, but the price is a little steep compared to the ones available around here in Texas starting at approximately $15. I hope it lasts a few years since it was built sturdily.
I recommend the product to others who need a sturdy and well-built chimney cap, as I am satisfied with it.
