I have used this fire pit cover for 15 months, through two Mid-Atlantic summers and a winter with 36 inches of snow piled on top. It has held up remarkably well with sturdy fabric and tight elastic underneath.

The cover fits snugly over the firepit, exposing only 4-inches of the stone.
