I used an external cd-dvd drive that was recognized by the operating system every time, stayed connected always and I wrote and read about 10 disks over a few hours without any issues.
I tested the software on VLC and Windows Media Player and found that one of the two programs was able to read the data. The complaints online are likely due to the software that people are using.

I am not sure if the data transfer rate of the Roofull external CD-DVD drive is actually USB 3 speed or not. I compared the file transfer speed of the Roofull drive with a USB 3 stick directly connected to my laptop port.
