About NOLYTH External CD DVD Drive with SD/TF Port Portable CD/DVD Burner
Overall Feedback:
71% positive
66% liked the connectivity options
The external cd-dvd drive has a split cable with a USB-C end and a USB-A end. It works on my Macbook Air M1, but it is clunky and awkward.
The USB and card reader slots are very useful. The external CD/DVD drive works on my desktop with just a USB/data cord connected. Additionally, the unit can also be used with a USB/power cord if it is not recognized by the computer.
83% highlighted the software compatibility, while 17% were dissatisfied
I found that the external cd-dvd drive was not compatible with Windows 10. I tried downloading free media software to make it work, but it still didn't work.
I found the Super Drive to be inconsistent in reading discs and not plug and play. It required a dongle from USB-A to USB-C and would only load one disc about once in ten tries. At times, it would hang and need to be unplugged and restarted just to eject the disc.
I purchased this external CD/DVD drive to load software on my Dell Alienware laptop without an optical drive installed in it. It worked fine when I connected it and used it to play a Christmas CD. However, when I needed to install software in March, it did not work.
79% liked the data transfer speed
My external CD-DVD drive has an average write speed of about 10X, which is more than adequate.
83% appreciated its compatibility with devices, but 17% didn't
The external CD ROM drive has two additional USB 3.0 ports and two different sized card reader ports, with a power indication light on the top of the drive.
The Apple Super Drive is not plug and play and requires a dongle from USB-A to USB-C. It is inconsistent in its ability to read discs, only loading one disc about once in ten tries. On other occasions, it hangs and needs to be unplugged and restarted just to eject the disc.
I forgot that Windows didn't have an included player anymore, but I did a quick search and found a recommended free one from a reliable site. It immediately played, showing that my external CD/DVD drive is compatible with the software I used.
It took me a minute to figure out how to use the external CD/DVD drive because I needed to download some software to play a DVD.
