The external DVD-R/RW adapter is noisy, but the noise seems appropriate for the speeds. I almost forgot how loud these can get and compared the noise to that of a jet engine.
The noise level is not as loud as I expected from my experience with other external drives.
This external CD/DVD drive is a little noisy, but every other external optical drive on the market is noisy too.
At times when the device needs to work harder, such as when ripping or burning discs, it can be a little noisy.

My external CD/DVD drive has a maximum speed of about 1.2MB/s, which is equivalent to an 8X CDROM reader.
