About Toshiba DR570 DVD Recorder/Player - Black (2009 Model)
Overall Feedback:
71% positive
90% found playback features helpful
I can chase playback and time-slip on the machine, and watch one program on a VR formatted disc while recording another.
The DVD player plays Divx/Xvid files, but a front USB input would have been better.
The sound quality is excellent when fed through a home stereo system. The unit can play CDs with superior sound quality to MP3s. Rewritable DVDs can be used for time-shifting and single-use DVDs can be used for archiving. It's convenient to view recorded programs in other locations as the DVDs can be played anywhere.
This DVD recorder has a finalization step that makes the disc playable on most players and an auto finalization setting to avoid manual finalization.
81% were satisfied with playback formats support
I can chase playback and time-slip on the machine if the disc is formatted in VR format. It also allows me to watch one program on a VR formatted disc while recording another.
92% praised remote control functionality, despite 8% faced challenges
I found the remote control functionality to be very poor and had to mark the button I use most with permanent markers.
I found the setup confusing as various functions were dependent on knowing when to use different buttons on the remote, including Input Select, DTV/TV, Setup, Top Menu, Menulist, and even the channel up/down buttons.
89% were impressed with size and design, while 11% weren't
The dvd player feels and looks cheap. The buttons are small and all the same color with hard to read labels.
The sound quality of my DVD player is not as good as other players I have used. Despite having excellent speakers on my television, it always sounds a bit tinny and flat.
