To light up the doorbell button, I had to connect the positive wire to the proper terminal. It was not clear which wire was the proper one, so I had to find out by trial and error.

I found that other reviewers had mentioned that the button could not be removed without breaking the plastic base to which it snaps. However, I discovered a small slot at one end to allow me to unhook the button from the base.
