About OREI Optical SPDIF/Coaxial Digital to RCA L/R Analog Audio Converter
79% appreciated the wide compatibility, though 21% experienced issues
I bought this converter to pair with my Sennheiser RS185 wireless headphone base. Sennheiser customer support recommended it to solve the issues I was having with PCM incompatibility with the Sennheiser wireless base/decoder.
For me, the conversion is reliable for coax digital input but not for toslink input.
I often have to unplug and plug back the HDMI cable to get the signal to display properly on the receiver.
I had to return the first unit and try another model, but it also failed, indicating compatibility issues with the digital-to-analog-signal-converters.

70% liked the connectivity, but 30% found it lacking
I connected the device to the coaxial output of my bluray player and then to a small 40 watt amp to two nice bookshelf speakers. I have better audio with a fraction of the hassles and clutter and no more remote control to mess with.

My receiver is only playing L/R of a 5.1 track because the digital-to-analog-signal-converters are not converting the bitstreams correctly.
I faced an issue with the bitstreams getting converted to stereo incorrectly when they should be passed through, and my receiver only played L/R of a 5.1 track.
80% praised the conversion accuracy, while 20% experienced distortion
I needed a converter that could handle a Dolby signal and found that PCM-only would be insufficient.
The conversion via coax digital input is reliable, but not so for the toslink input.
I noticed that the converter has the bandwidth to support 1440 120hz resolution, but it is not configured to do so.

My amplifier's optical signal cuts out and back in erratically, indicating that the product is not durable.
I started having problems with the digital-to-analog-signal-converters after several months of usage. I had to power cycle the Orei to get the sound back.
My amplifier's optical signal would cut out and back in erratically and it got worse over time. By day two, the optical output stopped working altogether.
70% praised the heat management, but 30% faced issues
I did not mention anything about heat management of digital-to-analog signal converters.
Everything works perfectly on the product.

66% found the led indicators helpful, while 34% didn't
After 3 months, my product stopped working. Initially, the light wouldn't turn on, but now it powers up and shows a blue screen when switched to HDMI input. However, it is no longer detected by the TV via HDMI and the receiver via the optical cable.

I tried a new unit and was pleasantly surprised that it worked perfectly, despite previous issues with other units.
70% liked the user interface, but 30% found it confusing
I had to flip the tiny switch over to analog coaxial input and it worked fine.
I found the user interface of this digital-to-analog-signal-converter easy to use. Simply flipping a switch worked fine.
I cannot control the volume from the television with this connection, as confirmed by the manufacturer.
The selector for bitstream versus pcm is weak.
