I am unsure if it is normal, but a lot of air blows out from the bottom gap.
Upon examining the unit, I found that the racks were distorted and the airflow was uneven.
I noticed that the bottom tray does not seat tightly to the power base, causing hot air to escape from the sides.

Customer support suggested running the dehydrator on the highest setting for 40-60 minutes to relax the trays that didn't fit to the base.

I have tried to dry a 5-rack batch of summer squash, sliced about 1/8' thick, at about 135 degrees F for more than 8 hours, but it is still not crispy.

The Nesco dehydrator has a larger tray, but I can only find one size of silicone mat for it.
The trays are now made of weaker, softer plastic and no longer properly fit the metal base.
