On the adjuster knob, the high setting is more powerful than the 10 setting and it is probably close to a 15 or more on that scale.
The blender has two blade speed settings: high and variable. When variable speed is switched on, I have ten speeds to select within it. It works flawlessly, but I will have to learn which speeds are best for which applications.
The speed control potentiometer wears out quickly if used daily, causing the speed to jump up and down.
To start most recipes, I need to use variable speed on a low setting. To return to that setting, I flip the speed selector and turn the variable speed knob back down to 1.

The newer Ascent line has a safety feature where the unit shuts off if the container dislodges from the base, thanks to its built-in self-detect technology.
The blender has an automatic off feature if the motor overheats.

The blender isn't quiet, but it's not loud enough to wake someone up in another room with the door closed. I've used it at 5AM to make my morning smoothie without disturbing anyone.
The noise level of my blender is quieter than my old Hamilton Beach blender.

The blender is very easy to clean. I just follow the manufacturer's directions and blend water with a drop of dish soap.
The cleaning process is fairly easy as recommended by Vitamix's team. Just add a drop or two of dish soap to half a container full of water and blend away.
Cleaning the blender takes me only 3 minutes.
It is very easy to clean the blender. It cleans itself with soapy water on high and the edges are easy to scrub, with no food sticking.
