About Kensington SlimBlade Trackball Mouse
Overall Feedback:
84% positive
92% appreciated the adjustable settings, but 8% found them limited
The computer-trackball is precise and can be adjusted according to my requirements through software changes.
Kensington released a new software called TrackballWorks which allows me to customize the Slimblade Trackball's four buttons, adjust pointer speed/acceleration/function, and other features.
I was initially disappointed that there was no way to adjust tracking speed and acceleration, but I later found a solution by using SteerMouse, a Mac 3rd party driver.
86% liked its durability, but 14% experienced wear and tear
I hope the product will be durable, as the Expert balls were pretty durable.
I have been using the trackball for a couple of months without any problems, but I am unsure about its long-term durability.
My main problem was the hardware's unreliability, which caused me to go through three devices in six months due to issues with the optical sensors and the left mouse button.
I find the device to be visually appealing, but it lacks durability and does not stand the test of time.
75% appreciated the comfortable grip, 25% found it uncomfortable
The SlimBlade is more comfortable to use as my hand rests flatter on the top of the device compared to the older design of the Expert model where my hand was bent higher at the wrist.
I found it difficult to adjust to using this mouse because of my grip type and hand size.
69% liked the quiet operation
I find the new SlimBlade trackball nearly silent, which is a positive feature for me as I record my screen and do voiceovers while recording. The Expert model, on the other hand, has a gritty rubbing noise.
86% praised the high-quality sensor, while 14% experienced accuracy issues
The Slimblade uses optical sensors, which is an improvement over the previous technology of sticky rubber bumpers that would crumble after a few years.
I accidentally broke the plastic housing of the sensors while cleaning the device, which resulted in it no longer working.
After 4 years of use, I am seeing some degradation in responsiveness after cleaning. Perhaps the sensors have been scratched or have gotten some fine dirt that I can't get rid of in them.
I have gone through three of these in the last six months and two of them had one of the optical sensors died, so the tracking will only work in one dimension.
The device has better ergonomics and supports a better wrist angle than the original Trackman. It's like a wired version of the Logitech MX Ergo, which has a more ergonomic, vertically angled base than the original or the MX570.
Sometimes I accidentally activate the side buttons when positioning the mouse on my desktop. This could be a problem for users who cannot adjust the trackball according to their preference.
