About Kensington Orbit Trackball Mouse
Overall Feedback:
90% positive
85% liked the easy connectivity
I prefer a wired device for work, but when traveling, a wireless device is better.
82% liked its durability, but 18% experienced wear and tear
The product is durable even with frequent travel. I have used 2 models and the first one lasted for 3 years and the second one lasted for 4 years.
The bearings supporting the trackball are superb and show no signs of wear, despite appearing to be plastic. The ball glides smoothly, as if floating on air.
I am concerned about the product's durability because of its tiny and plastic bearings.
I am experiencing an issue with the left click button. It refuses to acknowledge clicks and sometimes clicks multiple times in milliseconds. This problem started about two months ago and is worsening.
83% appreciated the comfortable grip, 17% found it uncomfortable
Using a trackball is very comfortable with just a little practice. It is easy to roll fingers over the ball and tap the buttons on the side to left or right click.
The trackball's size is appealing as it offers a tactile feel for both swinging across the screen and making fine-precision movements. If fingers get tired, they can be grouped together or even palmed.
The trackball is comfortable and ergonomic for extended use.
The shape of the base and location of the buttons allows my fingers to rest more naturally and with less supporting effort across the buttons, scroll ring and ball, making it more comfortable for me than the Logitech Trackman MarbleMouse.
The trackball is not molded well for hand comfort, it's just not comfortable.
74% liked the quiet operation, but 26% found it noisy
The noise level is fairly quiet and it's pretty good. However, it's not as smooth as the Logitech and not as easy on my hands as the large ball in the Expert Mouse.
I have noticed that this trackball produces a high pitch noise while using USB.
I found the scroll ring to be stiff and the device made a high pitched noise when moving the ball.
The mouse is so loud that it can be heard from 30 feet away even when I am watching television.
The noise level of the scrolling wheel is somewhat annoying and it should have been better.
I do not like the friction noise of the Scroll ring.
I noticed that the scroll ring had a plastic-on-plastic rubbing noise to it, which seemed cheap.
The scroll ring has a cheap plastic-on-plastic rubbing noise.
76% praised the high-quality sensor, while 24% experienced accuracy issues
As long as I regularly remove the ball and clean the sensors and contact points, the trackball element works fine.
I suggest cleaning the trackball with a q-tip to remove lint from the three points that contact the ball and also clean the three little optical sensors that read the trackball movement.
I am frustrated with the optical sensor of the trackball. It feels like it's two decades out-of-date. I am waiting for a company to put a Pixart 3360-class sensor in a trackball with their existing designs.
I have noticed that the settings are saved on the computer, not the device. This is an important feature for me as I can adjust the settings according to my preference. I can understand omitting on-board settings for cheaper mice, but this device is not cheap.
