About TP-Link TL-SG108PE | 8 Port Gigabit PoE Switch
Overall Feedback:
80% positive
78% liked its broad compatibility, while 22% experienced compatibility issues
I tested the compatibility of the switch by setting a port to vlan 8 and another port on standard vlan 1 untagged and both devices could ping each other.
81% praised for its easy management features, while 19% found it complicated to set up
The switch works fine and the management web interface allows for convenient remote control of POE power.
I have not yet utilized the smart management features.
The management interface can be accessed from any port on the switch and cannot be restricted.
82% liked the flexible mounting options, but 18% found it difficult to install
I used double-sided sticky tapes to attach the switch to the box. One can also use the included flanges for mounting.
The product comes with mounting brackets for the rack, but only one set of screws to attach the bracket to the device, and no screws to mount the bracket to the rack.
85% praised for its fast network speeds
This switch handles high-definition content, online gaming, or large file transfers effortlessly. The Gigabit speeds ensure a smooth experience across all connected devices.
The switch has two features I needed, POE and VLAN support, and is fast.
My network speed is fast and I no longer need external POE injectors.
The switch has a Quality of Service (QoS) feature that allows me to prioritize traffic based on different types of traffic and limit specific ports to a certain amount of bandwidth.
95% liked the quiet operation, but 5% found it too loud
This switch is fairly loud and can be heard across the hall in another room, but it is still quiet compared to enterprise switches.
In an office environment, the device is quite noisy due to active cooling.
I am not sure if the switch is electrically noisy due to the power supply or POE power itself.
When I mount the device in a ventilated closet, the fan is very loud.
78% liked the ample port count
The switch supports MTU, port and 802.1q vlans.
81% appreciated the durable construction, while 19% noticed flimsy parts
The TL-SG108PE's solid build is immediately evident with its metal housing adding durability and aiding in heat dissipation, ensuring reliable operation even during extended use. This level of quality gives me confidence that my network is in capable hands.
The switch feels well made with good construction.
It's a great value for money with 802.3af POE, 802.1Q VLAN support, all in a wall-mountable metal case.
Even though it has a full metal housing, the switch's quality is not good.
80% appreciated the robust security features, while 20% found them inadequate
I purchased this to experiment with VLANs and upgrade my home network to be more robust and secure.
I can configure vLANs on the switch to segment network traffic and control network flow between them. This is useful for IP camera traffic or to segment networks in a small office.
I did not mention anything about security features of the switch.
The switch is not secure, which is a serious problem with a managed switch.
I tested the compatibility of the switch by setting a port to vlan 8 and another port on standard vlan 1 untagged and both devices could ping each other.
I believe that the POE switch version 1 is not end of life, despite what several reviews say.
