About TP-Link TL-SG105 | 5 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Ethernet Network Switch
83% liked its broad compatibility, while 17% experienced compatibility issues
The switch has no managed network control, but it has no observable negative effect on my family's network-related activities.
Only hardware version 2.0 has a web interface.
Linux and Mac devices are not supported.
There are fatal security issues with the VLAN function. VLAN 1 cannot be removed from a port and broadcasts on VLAN 1 appear on all ports. The management interface responds on any port if the management subnet is configured.

83% praised for its redundant fan design, while 17% experienced fan failure issues
Under load, the switch produces a high pitch whine/noise.
The DC power adapter produces a high pitched sound constantly.
82% praised for its easy management features, while 18% found it complicated to set up
This switch has a lot of management features like VLAN and port mirroring that you would expect in a much more expensive switch. It also delivers solid Gbps throughput.
I had to use VLAN 1 as my management network since I couldn't reach the IP on any other VLAN.
There is no real security through traffic isolation and the management IP address can be reached from any port regardless of what VLAN configuration is in effect.
84% praised for its fast network speeds, while 16% experienced slow connectivity
During the speed test, I achieved over 700 mbps compared to 300 with WIFI.
After connecting the switch, my game laptop's speed increased from 60 MPS to 300 MPS, which is the internet speed limit we purchased.
If your internet speed is faster than 100MB, I recommend buying this switch. I made a mistake by purchasing the 100MB model initially and realized it was capping my internet speed.
I was only getting around 40-50 MBs of throughput while copying a 2 GB file across the network.

72% liked the quiet operation, but 28% found it too loud
Under load, the switch produces a high pitch whine at 9500 hertz which gives me a headache.
The high pitched noise is unacceptable for a desktop switch.
The high pitch noise coming from the adapter is unbearable.
The switch produces a loud coil-whine noise that was difficult to muffle even after putting it in a drawer in a cabinet.

81% liked the ample port count
Port 3 is where I connected my desktop.
The switch has lights on each port indicating if the port is operating at gigabit speed or 10/100 Mbps speed.
I purchased an 8 port switch for behind my TV and a 5 port switch for my office and am very happy with it.
87% appreciated the durable construction
At this price point, the all-metal construction of the switch feels premium, which is a major plus.
The switch is well constructed and sturdy, giving me confidence in its performance.
The switch has a good solid weight and feel to it, made of steel.
The switch is made of sturdy metal and is lightweight, indicating the quality of the build. The device does not need fans, which makes it even better.
71% appreciated the robust security features, while 29% found them inadequate
I wish to have two security features in the switch: enabling https instead of http for web management and being able to have longer and stronger passwords. Currently, the switch only allows up to 16 characters and no special characters.
There is a security flaw in the web interface that could be used to bypass network segmentation.
The VLAN stuff works, but it does not provide network separation. An attacker on VLAN1 can spoof the ARP table for other VLANs, making it useless.
There is no ability to view which MAC addresses are connected to the switch.
