About TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit PoE Switch
80% liked its broad compatibility
Initially, I thought the camera was buggy, but when I moved both cameras to the Amcrest switch, they powered up without any problem.
I appreciate that the switch has a 5th port for connecting to the switch while still having 4 more ports for POE and data.
The switch is a well-performing 4-port POE + 1-port non-POE gigabit switch.
I compared two different switches and found that the one I bought has better speed (10/100/1000Mbps) for future upgrades.
70% praised for its redundant fan design, while 30% experienced fan failure issues
The fan emits a loud, high pitched buzz that is really grating.
72% praised for its easy management features, while 28% found it complicated to set up
I have never been let down by this brand and I use many of them.
The device is of good quality and simple to use. It can be easily plugged in and connected to a router.
I have complained that the DC connector in the back is loose and allows the DC cord to fall out, which could lead to trouble tickets when someone moves it.
72% liked the flexible mounting options
The switch has mounting holes with cut-outs in two directions, allowing mounting with Ethernet ports facing downwards or sideways.
I purchased this switch to power my POE security cameras and connect multiple cameras to the last available network port in my router.
Since this is a PoE device, it is recommended to use the link port (Port 5) to connect to another switch.
70% praised for its fast network speeds, while 30% experienced slow connectivity
I compared this switch with another switch of similar price and found that it has a higher network speed of 10/100/1000Mbps, ensuring longevity for future upgrades.
I noticed that the switch provides smooth, high-speed network connections to all of them. It also came with a decently-sized power cable. The switch provides smooth, high-speed network connections and comes with a decently-sized power cable.
This switch is not suitable for connecting multiple wifi 6 APs or similar high bandwidth devices as the combined uplink will only be 1 Gbps. Other compact switches with a 2.5 or 10 GbE uplink are recommended for that use case.
The switch has a limitation of 100 Mbps on the power over Ethernet (PoE) ports, regardless of the port used or the cable tested. Although the uplink speed is gigabit, the PoE ports are only 100 Mbps. I find this misleading and would not recommend the product.
89% liked the quiet operation, but 11% found it too loud
The switch fan emits a high pitched buzz that is really grating.
79% liked the ample port count, but 21% needed more ports for their setup
I have set up a VoIP PBX with a 24-port TP-Link POE switch and all the ports are in use by Yealink phones.
I cannot push more than 100 Mbps through the switch's poe ports, regardless of the port used or cable tested.
76% appreciated the durable construction
I appreciate the robust steel chassis and large power supply of the switch, which is a positive aspect of its quality of construction.
I was hesitant to try TP-Link due to past experience, but it seems they have improved their quality in recent years.
The device is sturdy and the price is competitive.
After 3-4 years of usage, the switch is still working fine and it impresses me.
89% appreciated the robust security features
I installed it in an unheated garage to run my security cameras and it has not caused any trouble.
The switch has IGMP snooping which improves the performance for video streaming applications.
