About TP-Link 5 Port Fast Ethernet 10/100Mbps PoE Switch
Overall Feedback:
78% positive
85% liked its broad compatibility, while 15% experienced compatibility issues
I was able to extend my single Ethernet line to 8 ports with the product, and 4 of them can power PoE cameras if needed.
When I used the product with POE cameras, there were no speed issues.
I have another POE IP camera coming and I don't expect any problems as based on the specs, I should easily be able to do 4 cameras if I wanted.
The device should have been able to power the camera at that distance as it is 802.3af compliant, but it did not.
85% praised for its redundant fan design, while 15% experienced fan failure issues
I haven't mentioned anything about fan redundancy of the switch.
I have a Netgear Prosafe switch that has failed three times over the past couple of years.
85% praised for its easy management features
I am planning to add another POE IP camera and expect no problems as per the specs, I should be able to do 4 cameras.
80% liked the flexible mounting options, but 20% found it difficult to install
I did not mention anything about the mounting options of the switch.
I found that the most difficult part of using the POE switch was running the cat 5 from the wiring closet to the camera. However, I did not have any issues with the mounting options of the switch.
77% praised for its fast network speeds, while 23% experienced slow connectivity
I would have preferred a faster switch to accommodate future growth, but this one is working fine with my present network load.
I didn't notice that it was only 100Mbps when I was in a hurry.
At the end of a 150 ft cat 5 ethernet run, the camera cannot be powered by the switch even though it claims to be 802.3af compliant.
78% liked the quiet operation, but 22% found it too loud
The switch is perfectly quiet as it has no fan.
I have been using the device for over a year now without ever having to reset or revisit it.
The power supply made a pop sound and the switch never displayed any indication of life.
When I plugged my phone in, the item did not turn on.
84% liked the ample port count, but 16% needed more ports for their setup
In a hurry, I did not notice that it was only 100Mbps.
The switch worked fine for the first 6 months, but then the ports started to go out.
84% appreciated the durable construction, while 16% noticed flimsy parts
I find the product fairly compact, well-built, and with all-metal construction.
I have used TP Link equipment in the past and have not been disappointed. The switch seems to be of high quality.
This switch includes a steel case and a couple of brackets.
I am dissatisfied with the power adapter design as it comes unplugged easily, causing the unit to lose power.
I tested the compatibility of the switch by setting a port to vlan 8 and another port on standard vlan 1 untagged and both devices could ping each other.
The switch has no managed network control, but it has no observable negative effect on my family's network-related activities.
