About TP-Link 5 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch
88% liked its broad compatibility, while 12% experienced compatibility issues
The switch has been compatible with all my devices including a Windows PC, an IP phone, and an old Macbook Pro.
The switch delivers consistent performance for my wired devices and operates smoothly.
The switch's ports are rated for Fast Ethernet speeds, but it is not compatible.
89% praised for its redundant fan design, while 11% experienced fan failure issues
I plugged the TP-Link Ethernet Switch directly into one of my existing router LAN ports and it offered four more, giving me a total of seven ports.
The device has 5 ports, but we will use 1 port each from the router and switch to connect them, leaving us with 3 usable ports on the router and 4 on the switch.
The switch has no redundancy as the manufacturer decided to have only 4 conductors, limiting it to 10/100 speed.
86% praised for its easy management features
This switch is plug and play and requires no software configuration.
The compact design of the switch is convenient for desktop use with ample connections for various devices.
96% liked the flexible mounting options, but 4% found it difficult to install
The switch works perfectly and is mounted on the wall with a velcro strip.
The switch is lightweight and can be mounted on the wall with double-sided tape.
Port 5 is where we connect the box to the router and it should have been explained.
83% praised for its fast network speeds, while 17% experienced slow connectivity
I have noticed that this switch is only capable of 100Mbit/second vs. Gigabit (1000Mbit/second) and have thought about appropriate use cases.
The switch is only 10/100Mbps and cannot provide Gigabit networking speeds.
When I plug in the switch, my internet speed drops to 10mbps and when I unplug it, it goes back to 60mbps. It's not because of adding more devices with the switch, but the switch itself is causing the problem.
On wifi, I get speeds of 100+ mbps, but on ethernet, it drops down to under 20 mbps.

90% liked the quiet operation, but 10% found it too loud
The power adapter produces a high pitched electrical noise that affects the devices plugged into it.
I find the high pitched noise emitted by the switch like nails on a chalkboard, which is very annoying.
The switch had a terrible EMI whine that changed in pitch and frequency as I used the device or the lights flashed.
After replacing the switch with a Cisco SG110 series switch, I noticed a significant increase in bandwidth and internet speed.
89% liked the ample port count, but 11% needed more ports for their setup
I can use the TP-Link Ethernet Switch to add 4 more LAN connections to my existing router LAN port, giving me a total of 7 ports which is plenty for my immediate need.
I have noticed that the device has only four ports available for use, as one of them is used as the input port from the router.
Each of our five ports supports internet connection speeds from 10 to 100mbps and Auto MDI/MDIX.
I connected the data wall socket to Ethernet port 1 on the switch.

90% appreciated the durable construction, while 10% noticed flimsy parts
The TP-Link 5 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch has proven to be a dependable networking solution for my desktop setup.
I am returning the product because it is not of high quality and I am looking for something more expensive and better.
The switch has only 4 conductors and lacks redundancy, which is not ideal.
I had connection issues with my TiVo after 3 months and traced it down to the switch. It did not last long and I replaced it with a quality Netgear switch. Based on my experience, I can say that the switch was the issue.
