About NETGEAR 8 Port PoE Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch (GS308EP)
Overall Feedback:
95% positive
93% liked its broad compatibility, while 7% experienced compatibility issues
The switch is compatible with most security cameras, IP phones, and access points, but some AC wave 1 and most AC Wave 2 require 802.3at PoE.
Some Unifi models require 24 V passive POE and are not compatible with this switch, but the Unifi UAP-AC-PRO works with it.
The switch is not compatible with POE devices, specifically IP cameras.
82% praised for its redundant fan design, while 18% experienced fan failure issues
This model is perfect for tight spaces or low airflow/hot locations as it is fanless and compact.
I need to keep the power supply cool with a fan as it is sensitive to heat.
93% praised for its easy management features
The management features are easy to use via the web UI and it shows how many watts everything is drawing.
94% liked the flexible mounting options, but 6% found it difficult to install
I have been using it for months without any problems while mounted in my basement.
The switch has a nice solid metal case, is fanless, and can be easily wall mounted.
I am satisfied with the switch. It would be great if the manufacturer provided rackmount options, but some sellers on Etsy 3d print rack options for popular smaller switches.
The product description states that this unit can be used as a desktop, wall mount or rack mount unit and comes with all the necessary hardware.
The mounting points on the underside are great to have, but their design doesn't allow for mounting at any angle. For instance, it won't mount solid if the ethernet ports are facing to the right when mounted against a wall.
92% praised for its fast network speeds
I used the network speeds to their full potential without any slowdown, specifically mentioning the upload and download speeds.
I had no loss of connection speed and installation was easy by attaching Ethernet patch cords and the power supply.
I love the switch because it lets me turn on and off APs and IP cameras from the web interface.
92% liked the quiet operation, but 8% found it too loud
I like this switch because it's not noisy like my previous huge and noisy switch.
I did not mention the noise level of the switch.
If it weren't for the expense, I would have returned the unit due to the noise level of the switch.
90% liked the ample port count
I bought an 8 port switch with 4 PoE ports and I am using 4 IR illuminator cameras.
91% appreciated the durable construction, while 9% noticed flimsy parts
The device has a solid and professional-looking construction.
I appreciate that the switch from Netgear has a solid metal construction for the price paid.
The switch has a strong feel and industrial integrity. The PoE works as advertised and remains stable.
I faced issues after initially configuring the switch because I had assigned a static IP that was on VLAN 2 instead of VLAN 1.
