I was surprised by how sturdy the tripod is when I opened it. It is somewhat heavier than my old aluminum one, but the feeling of rigidity, especially when panning, makes up for it.
The carbon fiber construction of my tripod keeps it rock steady and both pan and tilt are extremely smooth, even more than the aluminum version.
