My wife uses Abreva which contains Docosanol, an active ingredient that inhibits the spread and reduces the severity of cold sores. It really works.
I used Abreva and my lip became numb, which helped take the edge off of the pain from a cold sore. I'm not sure if the stinging went away or if the Abreva took it away.
I felt numbness to my lip after using the product and presume it will be effective in tackling the pain and discomfort of cold sores.
