If you read the instructions, it's clear that the filters turning the water black during the rinse process is part of the process and why they need to be rinsed before use.
When I put the water in a bowl with clean water, it turned black and didn't go away even after washing it a few times.
The filters have poor quality with charcoal deposit even after soaking, which is disgusting. I don't want it in my coffee.
