The clock has a feature where it starts at the lowest volume and gradually increases to the user-set volume.
When the alarm sounds, it lights up to the brightest setting to assist in waking up, and goes back to the previous setting once I hit snooze or off.
The clock-radio has two alarm settings, one for weekdays and one for weekends.
When the alarm comes on, the display also comes on and it works great.

The display on this clock-radio is much clearer and easy to read, although it is not as colorful as others.
The display has 3 levels of brightness which is nice as blue displays can be quite annoying at night if too bright.
The display is quite bright and a big plus in daylight. It can be turned off easily and still have the wonderfully readable, yet subtle projection time on my ceiling.
I suggest using a neutral density film in gray from an art or photographic supply store to solve the display brightness issue. It was effective for me.
