I compared the motor performance of two different ceiling fans and found that this fan's motor is quiet and fires right up, whereas the other fan hesitates for some reason.
The motor housing of my second fan is warped, causing a loud, consistent clicking sound and uneven rotation at slow speeds.

I personally find the ceiling fan difficult to use in a bedroom as it has no really slow speed and the low speed is much too fast.
