I have reached other drivers that were no less than two miles away in a very hilly/obscured terrain and the range is pretty good.
The radios worked fine from several miles down the beach to inside the hotel where we were staying.
The 35 mile range is only possible without obstructions and in the wilderness on top of a mountain talking to someone on another mountain.
The range of two-way radios depends on obstacles between units. Metal partitions in ships can hinder the range, but stepping out on deck greatly increases it.

The durability of our CB two-way radios is much greater than expected. I have dropped it on asphalt, kicked, thrown, dropped in mud puddles, rained on excessively and covered in bentonite.

The rechargeable batteries that come with the unit do not last more than 4 hours of continual use.
