The design of the cat toy is not engaging enough for me. When I catch the wand, it makes a horrible popping/grinding sound at being held still, which dissuades me from trying to engage with it.
I compared the old and new fabric of the cat toy. The old fabric was heavily swishy and interesting to the cat due to the sound, and it laid flat so the cat could see the mouse moving underneath. The new fabric is lightweight and doesnt lay flat so you really cant even see it pop up when the mouse goes around.

I find that the cat is very engaged with the toy and having lots of fun with it, despite it being a bit noisy. It is also very stimulating and worth the price.

A solution to the loud noise issue is to loosen the bottom screws attaching the base to the gear portion by 2-4 turns each. This will loosen the pressure being put on the gears and allow it to spin freely without skipping gears when the motor spins, which is what that noise is created by. If the noise continues, add 1 or 2 drops of grease to the bottom of the spinning section. After following these steps, the noise level is now completely quiet besides the motor noise.
The new design is quieter but has other flaws.
