The filter seal is tight and allows the motor to run hot. This is expected as air is being sucked through a fine knit filter. It's advised not to run it for an hour.
I have explained how to handle the vacuum cleaner filter while emptying the container. Gently tapping the filter against something hard will expel ash dust, but too much tapping can tear the filter and make it useless. The filter is good but cannot take abuse, and you will notice suction degradation after extended use.
I found a secondary paper style filter on the motor which is not mentioned in the description. This feature ensures that no ashes will blow out in my house when cleaning my fireplace or gas stove. I am satisfied with this feature and have found it useful.
